Lord of the Mysteries
Vessel of Death / Henry / Death
“The boundaries which divide Life from Death are at best shadowy and vague.
Who shall say where the one ends, and where the other begins?”
⸺⠀⠀Edgar Allan Poe (The Premature Burial)

Tarot Card: XIII. Death
Pathway: Death
Sequence: Sequence 2 Death Consul
A once rudimentary sentience given to a crafted body / puppet via mysticism and power of Death's Uniqueness as one of the first “prototypes” or attempts at turning Death’s Uniqueness into a sentient being through the Numinous Episcopate's Artificial Death plan.- Animal Eyes
- Animal Motifs: Snakes, specifically the Saharan horned viper (Cerastes cerastes). This is seen in their physical features such as eyes (yellow with occasional vertical slits), complexion (almost unnaturally pale white / ashen grey), horns (however, theirs are more akin to a sheeps). An even termpermant unless they feel threatened completes this.
- Artificial Human
- Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance
- Be All My Sins Remembered
- Dark and Troubled Past: Being a failed prototype of the Numinous Episcopate's Artificial Death Faction, they have a considerably extensive history of traumatic experiences.
- Dark Is Not Evil: Dresses in black and can often be off-putting when first encountered due to them having distinct non-human features in comparsion to other characters as well as having a difficult time naviating social situations. However, they are one of the most trusted members of The Tarot Club.
- I Just Want to Be Normal
- Innate Night Vision
- Meaningful Name: The name 'Henry' was chosen as a reference to Henry V from Shakespeare's Henriad. In universe, The Evernight Goddess chose it because they reminded 'Her' more specifically of the younger version of Henry V in Henry IV parts 1 & 2 (Prince Hal). Both in and out of universe the reasonings are because of their personality (and out of universe character growth).
- No Social Skills: Has trouble with conversation and understanding social cues.
- Older Than They Look
- Plagued by Nightmares
- Semi-Divine: From being an experiment of the Numinous Episcopate's Artificial Death faction. Later, manages to advance to a Sequence 2 Angel, making them semi-divine from a standpoint of being a true demi-god
- Tarot Motifs: 'Death' as their codename for the Tarot Club isn't just a reference to their Pathway, but primarily due to the meaning of Death in tarot which represents transformation, the ending of one part of your life and the beginning of a new one ('when one door closes another opens'), stagnancy, fear of change, being stuck in negative cycles, &c.
- You Remind me of X
To Be Hero X
Jeiru (ジェイル)
“True stability results when presumed order and presumed disorder are balanced. A truly stable system expects the unexpected, is prepared to be disrupted, waits to be transformed.”

⸺⠀⠀Tom Robbins (Even Cowgirls Get the Blues)
A jaded man who has become disillusioned to the Trust Values and hero work in general.
- Armor-Piercing Question: To Lin Ling when discussing the nature of Heroes and the Trust Values.
- Badass in a Nice Suit: His typical outfit, regardless of it being civilian or hero, is that of a well fitting black suit.
- Battle Couple: With X. While X is of taking down villains completely by himself, he does take a step back to allow Jeiru to hone his own skills and powers.
- Brutal Honesty: Prefers to be upfront and honest with people even if it isn't the best time or situation.
- But Not Too Foreign: He's part Japanese, and his name gives this away in particular.
- Clark Kenting: The only difference between his civilian and hero appearance is the sunglasses he wears as a civilian. Somehow, no one is the wiser or realize it's him. Perhaps this is due to the Top Hero always looking out for him?
- Cool Shades: He sports these when passing as a normal civilian.
- Cooldown Hug: Given to him more often than not by X due to being easily riled up.
- Comic-Book Movies Don't Use Codenames: He has a hero name, it just never gets used.
- Combination Attack: Happens on the rare occasion X steps in to assist with villains that are giving Jeiru a particularly difficult time. Both their powers have the ability to easily overlap, making their combined efforts particularly effective.
- Deadpan Snarker: Tends to be this, mostly around those he is comofortable around... Or those who annoy him too much.
- Endearingly Dorky
- Everyone Has Standards: Dislikes the existence of the Trust Values and Hero System, but resigns himself to only doing what he can to change things without becoming a villain.
- First-Name Basis: One of the only people who truly knows Hero X's real identity, and what's more, they're both on (more than) friendly terms with each other.
- Foil: Where Lin Ling is overly enthusiastic and puts all his belief into Heroes and the Trust Values, Jeiru sees things for how they are and opposes it.
- The Gadfly: He isn't afraid to say what's on his mind or call out actions, in particular when it comes to the things he dislikes.
- The Glasses Come Off: Typically wears a pair of sunglasses to hide his unnatural eye color, but does not wear them when actually doing hero work.
- Innate Night Vision
- Kindhearted Cat Lover
- Order versus Chaos
- Rules Lawyer: Primarily against his own will due to how people view and believe him to be a ardent rule follower.
- Socially Awkward Hero: His first encounter with Lin Ling in the Hero Tower elevator is indiciative of this. He ended up making the simple mistake of hitting the wrong button due to being nervous and flustered over nearly missing the elevator and encountering someone else as well.
- Time Master: Partially. Due to how his powers relating to entropy and the second law of thermodynamics, he can only manipulate time to move forward.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Ramen in particular is a favorite.
